Christian Owens De-Commits, But It’s A Blessing In Disguise

Christian Owens – ☆☆☆
Griffin (Griffin, GA) WR
6-5/207

The bad news? Georgia lost a 3-star commit to South Carolina.  The good news? He really isn’t that great of a player, and I’m almost certain he would have rarely seen the field for the Bulldogs. Many have projected Owens to be a tight end at the next level because he’s too slow and not quite athletic enough to play wide receiver. Owens has insisted, though, that he wants to play wide receiver and that that’s what UGA has been recruiting him as. With UGA already having commitments from Terry Godwin, Van Jefferson, Michael Chigbu, Jayson Stanley, and Shaquery Wilson, you can’t really blame the kid for trying to escape a talented, very crowded wide receiver group.

I really view Owens decision as a blessing in disguise. No one likes losing recruits to South Carolina, but Georgia is not missing out on much, and they now have another spot open in this class, something that is beginning to look very important.

Tarvarus McFadden Cancels Official Visit

Tarvarus McFadden – ☆☆☆☆☆
American Heritage (Fort Lauderdale, FL) CB
6-3/198

I’m officially calling McFadden’s recruitment over. The Bulldogs will of course go after him until National Signing Day, but I’m not holding my breath on a flip happening. Tarvarus cancelled his official visit for the Auburn game, and it’s being rumored that he did so to attend the FSU/Miami game. If he really passed up a chance to see a huge game in a huge atmosphere and to watch two of his best friends from high school play just to see a middle of the road FSU game, I think it’s safe to assume he’s pretty solid to the Seminoles. Even if that isn’t his reason for missing the Auburn game this weekend, the Bulldogs won’t be able to get him back for another big home game as they only have Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech remaining on their schedule.  This will certainly be one that stings for the Bulldogs because up until his FSU/Notre Dame visit, Georgia actually had the lead for him.

4-Star OT Close To A Decision

Emanuel McGirt – ☆☆☆☆
Hillside (Durham, NC) OT
6-6/275

4-Star offensive tackle, Emmanuel McGirt, says that he is going to commit later this month. It seems as if it has come down to UGA and NC State. 65% of McGirt’s crystal ball predicts him to UGA, and I also believe he’ll go to UGA. McGirt was close to committing to the Dawgs back in September, but has since taken visits to NC State, Virginia Tech, and Penn State. I wouldn’t be shocked if he committed to the Wolfpack, but my gut tells me he’ll end up being a Bulldog.
