Georgia is doing something this year that they have never done in the past: Locking down the borders. Of the five 5-stars in the state of Georgia, UGA already had two, and Friday morning, they picked up their third. Rashad Roundtree committed to the in-state Bulldogs over a host of other schools including Ohio State, Duke, and Auburn.

Roundtree is an exceptional talent and will help this weak Georgia secondary right away. The word you keep hearing thrown around with Roundtree is “upside,” meaning he will be great eventually, but he has a lot room for improvement. I agree that Rashad will continue to get better, but I also believe that he can have an immediate impact as soon as he arrives in Athens. He brings a physical presence at safety that the Bulldogs haven’t had since Shawn Williams. He excels at coming up and stopping the run, and he’s athletic enough to stay with the best of receivers in pass coverage. One of my favorite things about Rashad is that he is fundamentally sound. He takes angles like few defensive players I’ve seen in the 2015 class, and he brings down offensive players on first contact, something many Bulldog players have had a hard time doing in the past (see Georgia Tech in 2008).

The pickup of Roundtree gives the Bulldogs their 24th overall commitment and 5th commitment at defensive back, a position they are in desperate need of. Georgia’s recruiting class now sits at #2 on Rivals, #3 on 247 Sports, and #3 on ESPN (I expect them to move to #2 when the new ESPN rankings come out Wednesday). This is without a doubt shaping up to be the best class UGA has ever put together, and there are a lot of big names out there that the Dawgs still have a great shot at landing. I can also say that I’ve never seen so much excitement from a UGA commitment class as I have from this one. What do I mean? Well a few of the current #Fam15 members took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the Roundtree pickup:
