In-Depth Gurley Details Released

Yesterday, UGA Athletic Director, Greg McGarity, met with the media to discuss details of the Gurley situation. Perhaps one of the most interesting pieces of information released was that the Todd Gurley investigation only took 2 days.

If you’re a Dawg fan, this story is a MUST READ.

College Football Playoff Rankings Announced

Last night, the second ever College Football Playoff rankings were announced, and Georgia came in at #20.

Here are the complete rankings:

1 Mississippi State 8-0
2 Florida State 8-0
3 Auburn 7-1
4 Oregon 8-1
5 Alabama 7-1
6 TCU 7-1
7 Kansas State 7-1
8 Michigan State 7-1
9 Arizona State 7-1
10 Notre Dame 7-1
11 Ole Miss 7-2
12 Baylor 7-1
13 Nebraska 8-1
14 Ohio State 7-1
15 Oklahoma 6-2
16 LSU 7-2
17 Utah 6-2
18 UCLA 7-2
19 Arizona 6-2
20 Georgia 6-2
21 Clemson 6-2
22 Duke 7-1
23 West Virginia 6-3
24 Georgia Tech 7-2
25 Wisconsin 6-2

Some Georgia fans were upset about dropping so much, but my response is who cares!? Georgia has about a .001% chance of going to the Playoffs now, so the rankings won’t really matter for the Bulldogs anymore. And quite honestly, I would have dropped them to #20 as well because that Florida loss was one of the most embarrassing/terrible losses a “good” team has had this year. But, if you’re naive enough to think UGA should be ranked higher, feel free to argue with me below.

Tuesday Player Interviews

Today, a Mike Bobo and a few players met with the media, and here’s what they had to say:

The most interesting thing to come out of the player interviews yesterday was the repeated idea that the Bulldogs took the Gators too lightly. Although Mark Richt says this wasn’t true at all, when three or four players bring it up on their own, you know their must be some truth to it.

  1. Speaking from personal experience as a player and a coach, I can see how Richt thought (at least leading up to the game) that they hadn’t taken the Gators lightly…while at the same time the players in retrospect seemed to indicate that they did. When, as Coach Pruitt mentioned, they had what he saw to be three of the best practices they had all year the week before the game — everybody on the same page, executing, and focused, as a coach all the tangibles and intangibles were evident. But I’ve experienced as a coach the exact scenario, when the coaching staff didn’t underestimate our opponent, only to discover that the great practices all week led the players to lay an egg, because they assumed between last practice and Gameday they were gonna walk in and the bad guys also knew how well they practiced. When I was player, and the same exact scenario unfolded and ruined our chance at the championship, after the game my dad summed it up quite insightfully, “never compare your best effort to the worst example of theirs, because a desperate man always thinks ‘a skilled man can win most games, but a crazy man can win ANY game.'”

    • And they, the Gators, were desperate and played with crazy intensity…and the Dawgs…it looked like the guys were busier trying to figure out how Florida didn’t the memo, instead of playing the game in front of them.

  2. Like Apollo Creed’s trainer told him when he fought Rocky in between rounds….”he doesn’t know it’s a damn show, he thinks it’s a damn fight”. Florida was Rocky and we were Apollo, not good.

  3. Be serious why would any 5* consider UGAs program over a proven winner???? And a team no less like UGA that will never reach the next level with a coach that does not have the ability to do so.

Beats me, but that’s how it is. UGA already has 2 5-stars committed, and will almost certainly have at least 3. Clemson is somehow able to do it too. As crappy as UGA has played in big situations the last 14 years, recruits still love Richt and know he puts players in the NFL better than almost anybody.
