Recruiting Quick Hits
Here are the Week 2 highlights of 2016 UGA 5-star QB commit, Jacob Eason. Again, this guy continues to impress, and he’s just a junior. I like a lot of things about Jacob’s game, but the thing that stands out the most is his arm strength. He rockets the ball with the flick of his wrist, and at 6-5, hopefully he’ll be able to avoid having a lot of his balls knocked down at the line of scrimmage like we’ve been accustomed to seeing out of Georgia quarterbacks the last couple of years.
This WR/RB/S from Palmetto Bay, Florida, might have one of the sickest highlight tapes I have ever seen. He is electrifying with the ball in his hands, but is also a pretty decent defender. Pruitt has told Irvin that he’d like him to play safety at Georgia, but if the Dawgs are able to land this kid, he better play some both ways. He’s got really good speed and tremendous agility, but what stands out the most to me with Irvin is that he’s always looking ahead to see how he can extend the play.
Jake Reuse of Rivals.com was able to catch up with Irvin and find out a little bit about his recruitment process here. He is going to visit Athens for the Auburn game, which could wind up being huge. Georgia and Auburn could very well be top-ten teams in the nation at that point, and a big win on the national stage could put the Dawgs in a good position to land this guy.
Pat Allen, Georgia’s best 2015 offensive lineman commit, could be shopping around. This past weekend, he visited Oklahoma and loved it. He still says that he’s 100% committed to the Dawgs, but he also states that he’ll announce his final decision at one of the All-American games he’s playing in. I still think we land Allen, but it is a little strange that he plans on announcing his decision a second time. ESPN thinks there’s a good chance Allen will flip.
Interview with Allen after Oklahoma visit here.
Talented 2016 defensive end, Chidi Okonya, enjoyed his visit to Athens for the Clemson game and will definitely keep the Dawgs near the top of his list. This was actually his first college game he’d ever been to, and Athens certainly didn’t disappoint. Okonya really values academics and says that will be a big factor when choosing a school. He was very impressed with the academics at UGA, and he knows that if he went there, he could pretty much get a job anywhere in Georgia. It’s nice to know he values academics because that will certainly eliminate Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee, and a few other schools.
Okonya plans on announcing in Januray.
