Where Will Michael Bennett’s Loss Hurt the Dawgs the Most?

We all know that the Bulldogs lost their leading pass catcher (by 8 catches), receiver (by 38 yards) and TD catcher (by 1) when Michael Bennett went down.  But, his loss may be even greater for the Dawgs than many may have originally anticipated.

Only one Bulldog (Todd Gurley) has more plays for first downs or touchdowns than Bennett this season.

To make matters even more interesting – or concerning for Bulldog fans – one needs to look no further than players who have moved the chains on third down.

Even more disturbing is how heavily relied upon Bennett has been in the passing game on second and third downs.  Bennett accounts for nearly 36% of the reception for a first down on those two play types.

This will be dearly missed.

Care to guess who leads all Bulldog runners in converting third and fourth downs?

The answer might surprise you.  It’s Aaron Murray.

Murray’s five conversions on late downs (4 on third down and 1 on fourth) edge out Keith Marshall’s total of three, Gurley’s two and one each from Christian LeMay, Merritt Hall and Ken Malcome.  So, in a weird sort of way Aaron Murray is 62.5% of Georgia’s power running game when a first down is needed.

That’s all I got/

  1. You hit on a good point here. It also plays into the confidence of Aaron Murray when it’s 3rd and long and his go to guy is in a knee brace on the sidelines. I know our QB is the consumate professional, but this has to get a little bit into his head.
